What is Capital Gate?
Capital Gate, often referred to as the 'Leaning Tower of Abu Dhabi,' is not just an iconic skyscraper but an architectural marvel. It's known for its distinctive leaning structure which gives the illusion of defying gravity. This 160-meter tall building has a noticeable lean of 18 degrees to the west, which is about four times more than the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. The way this building leans so considerably yet stands tall and strong is a testament to human engineering and ingenuity.

History of Capital Gate
The inception of Capital Gate began in 2007 when Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) envisioned creating a structure that would stand out in the international community. The construction of Capital Gate was part of the Abu Dhabi's larger plan to diversify its economy and to establish itself as a touristic, cultural, and economic hub. Construction had its set of unique challenges, especially in ensuring the building's structural integrity due to its inclined stature.
It was completed in 2011 after a meticulous process that involved pouring concrete reinforced with steel in a way that weight was distributed evenly. The foundation features 490 piles drilled over 30 meters underground to anchor the building against the gravitational pull that its tilt exerts. As a marvel of engineering, Capital Gate entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the "World’s Furthest Leaning Man-made Tower" in 2010, even before it was fully complete.
Why is Capital Gate Important?
Capital Gate is significant not only for its architectural achievements but also for what it represents for Abu Dhabi and the larger UAE. Symbolically, it defies the norm, standing as a monument to the emirate's ambition and forward-thinking mindset. It showcases the ability of the UAE to push boundaries and innovate within the realms of construction and design.
Strategically, it complements the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre by offering additional premium space for businesses and events, further cementing Abu Dhabi’s standing as a leading venue for international events.
