History of The Mennello Museum of American Art

The museum was established in November 1998, inspired by the generous gift of paintings from the collection of Michael and Marilyn Mennello. The Mennellos were avid collectors of Earl Cunningham's work and desired to share his unique vision with the public. To accommodate the donation and create a permanent home for these pieces, the City of Orlando agreed to renovate what was then known as the Howard Phillips' house, situated on the shores of Lake Formosa. This house has since become the main gallery space of the museum and a lovely historic site that complements the collections within.

Since its inception, The Mennello Museum of American Art has expanded its focus to include a broader range of American art beyond Cunningham's creations.
