The Big Buddha is probably Phuket’s most well-known landmark and  a trip to Phuket wouldn’t really be complete without a photo in front of this guy! The entire body of the statue is built of reinforced concrete covered with beautiful white jade marble imported from Burma. Standing as a symbol of peace, strength and unity, the statue is made entirely of Myanmar granite with a total weight of about 135 tons / 2500 square meters. 

Initiated in 2002 and funded solely by donations, the officially named Phra Phutta Ming Mongkol Eknakiri, or Ming Mongkol Buddha, has become one of the most popular tourist attractions on the island, with over 1,000 visitors on a favorable day.
